Life-Saving Surgery at Bayalpata Hospital: Shiva’s Story of Survival

Shiva Luhar, 25-year-old from Chaphamandu, Ramaroshan, Achham, faced a life-threatening incident during Local festival. While assisting in the slaughter of a buffalo, a tragic accident severed his left hand completely, leaving him in a critical state. He was rushed to Bayalpata Hospital by his family on 18th Nov 2024, Shiva arrived with dangerously low hemoglobin levels due to significant blood loss.

The situation was awful, as all the arteries, veins, nerves and tendons including bone and muscles in his hand were cut, making reattachment impossible. Despite the complexities of the case, the hospital’s surgical team, led by Hospital Director, Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Mandeep Pathak, proceeded promptly, performing a life-saving surgery that stabilized Shiva and managed his severe injuries.

Shiva’s life was saved without any financial burden and the rapid response and expertise of Bayalpata Hospital’s medical team. Although he lost his hand, Shiva remains grateful for the free treatment that prevented a far worse outcome. “I am heartbroken to lose my hand, but my life has been saved. I am deeply thankful to the Surgeon and entire hospital team,” he expressed. This successful surgery highlights the important role Bayalpata Hospital in providing critical, life-saving care in free of cost to underserved communities in rural Nepal like Achham.
